MSU Extension Teams are committed to strengthening the economic growth of the Michigan dairy industry through educational efforts in collaboration with industry partners. Many dairy producers in Michigan are facing both a significant decline in the price of milk and sharp increases in the cost of production.  “Dollars and $ense” is intended to inform dairy producers and their consultants about how to analyze and make decisions that will maximize the profit potential of these centers.

The project includes several methods of information distribution. The first is this Web site that pulls together much of the dairy farm information at MSU in one location. The second is collaboration with agribusinesses that share in the desire to have a healthy industry. Veterinarians, nutritionists, bankers, milk cooperatives, and dairy sales companies all have a vested interest in a strong growing Michigan dairy industry. One- on-one meetings with trusted agribusiness consultants will help build long term profitability. Third, regional “Position your Dairy Business” workshops will offer detailed evaluation and planning opportunities.
